Boca Raton Student-Led Group Will Help Bring More Pollinators to the Historic Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens

Recent Philanthropy Tank awarded program Growing Native Oases Made for Engagement (GNOME) will help transform the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens this Saturday, November 5th into a pollinator paradise. Student volunteers from Florida Atlantic University High School will join forces with team members of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens and Philanthropy Tank board members to help mulch the two-acre tropical garden sanctuary and put in native milkweed plants to expand their butterfly garden. GNOME hopes the change will attract more pollinators to the historic gardens that aim to enrich visitors’ lives with nature, art, and history.

“GNOME’s help in planting more native plants in our butterfly garden will help it flourish and bring an enriching experience to all visitors of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens,” says Frances Fisher, Founder, Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens. “This project unites my two passions: gardening and helping the next generation of leaders accomplish their own dreams. I look forward to continuing helping GNOME show how pollinator gardens can enhance a community.” Fisher also serves as GNOME’s Philanthropy Tank Mentor.

GNOME is one of five student-led philanthropy programs awarded during the Philanthropy Tank Year 7 Finals Event in April. GNOME was founded by four students at FAU High School. Their mission is to create community butterfly gardens in underserved communities throughout Palm Beach County in the hope of raising awareness about environmental issues.
